Challaghatta Namma Metro Station To Get New Pedestrian Bridge By Year End

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced the construction of a much-needed pedestrian bridge over the Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway near Challaghatta Metro station. This project, targeted for completion by September 2024, aims to improve safety and connectivity for both Namma metro commuters and pedestrians in the area.

The bridge will provide a safe and convenient link across the busy highway, particularly benefiting students from nearby educational institutions such as Rajarajeshwari Medical College, ACS College of Engineering, and others. This will be especially welcome considering the high daily footfall of around 10,000 passengers using the metro station, especially during peak morning and evening hours.

BMRCL officials said that the bridge's user-friendly design, constructed at a cost of ₹2.22 crore. It will include stairs and elevators to cater to all types of users, ensuring accessibility for everyone.

Students and local residents have expressed relief over the new pedestrian bridge near Challaghatta station. Anusha, a student, expressed relief, stating, "Crossing the highway without a proper crossing is risky, and this bridge will make things much easier and safer."

Shilpa, another student, shared the sentiment, saying, "The bridge will save us time and improve safety, especially during peak hours. Currently, crossing the road is a daily hassle with vehicles often not stopping to let pedestrians pass."

BMRCL officials have confirmed the construction of a 100-meter footpath in addition to the bridge. This footpath will connect the bridge to the metro station, providing a seamless and safe passage for pedestrians.
