Cauvery Water Row: Protests To Continue In Mandya District, Bengaluru On High Alert

In light of the Supreme Court's directive to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, farmers and pro-Kannada organisations are expected to stage protests today. According to TV9 reports, during these demonstrations, there is a possibility of stone-pelting incidents targeting Tamil Nadu government buses.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Dayanand has issued a directive to all Deputy Commissioners of Police within the city to maintain a heightened state of vigilance to prevent any undesirable occurrences. The Commissioner has further instructed the DCPs to enhance security measures in areas with a significant Tamil population.

The Mandya District Farmers' Welfare Forum has called for a shutdown in Mandya on September 23 following the Supreme Court's order. In this regard, political leaders, traders, and organisation representatives will convene for another meeting today. During this meeting, they will discuss the details of the city-wide shutdown in Mandya.

The Cauvery river-related protests will continue in Mandya today. At 10 am, members of pro-Kannada organisations will encircle the TK Halli pump house in Thorekadanahalli, Malavalli taluk of Mandya district. This pump house supplies water to the entire city of Bangalore. The protesters will demand a halt to water supply to Bangalore residents and advocate for diverting the water to the farmers.

Abhishek Ambarish to participate in Cauvery Protest

Late Kannada star Ambareesh and actor-turned-politician Sumalatha's son Abhishek, is set to join the Cauvery protest. He will participate in the farmers' demonstration in Mandya at 11 am. Also, various farmers' associations are staging protests in Srirangapatna, Pandavapur, Maddur, and other regions. Meanwhile, the District Farmers' Welfare Committee, which has called for a shutdown in Mandya Nagar tomorrow, will draft a proposal outlining the details of the shutdown.
