Cauvery row: High level technical team from Delhi in Karnataka today
Bengaluru, Oct 7: A high level technical team would begin inspection of the dams in the Cauvery basin on Friday.
The team will be headed by G S Jha, the chairman of the central water commission in the Ministry for Water Resources. The team would visit the Thailuru, Somanahalli and Madarahalli catchment areas in Maddur, around 80 kilometres away from Bengaluru.
The team also has scheduled a visit to the Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) dam at 6.30 pm on Friday. The team is visiting these areas following a directive by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had earlier this week directed Karnataka to release 2,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu between October 7 and 18.

The court had also directed a technical team to visit the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The team would have to submit its report to the Supreme Court on October 18 when the matter comes up for hearing next.
Karnataka will appraise the team about the shortage of water. Officials in the Karnataka government would tell the team that there has been a shortage of water and would express its inability to release water in large quantity to Tamil Nadu.
