Helped Her, Gave Her Money, But They Did This: BS Yediyurappa On Sexual Assault Complaint By Minor

Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has responded to the complaint on the sexual assault complaint filed by the mother of a 17-year-old minor.

The survivor's mother has alleged that the 81-year-old BJP leader sexually assaulted her daughter during a meeting on February 2.

Speaking to the media, he said, "I think one or one and half months ago, a mother and daughter had approached me seeking help. They had come here on many occasions but I had not entertained them. However, upon noticing their distress during a particular visit, he invited them in to discuss their concerns. He then directed them to the police commissioner for resolution. Thereafter, they started speaking about me. I felt she was not well. Now, they have come up with this complaint."

The BJP stalwart has been booked under section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act and Section 354 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sadashivanagar police station.

The Lingayat strongman stated that he had also financially helped the mother and her daughter. "I also helped them financially as they spoke about their problems, but they did this to me. Anyhow, I will face it," he added.

On asking whether he thinks there is a political conspiracy behind the allegations, he laughed off and refused to comment.

Going by the reports, the woman and her daughter had gone to the BJP leader's house to transfer her daughter's rape case to the Special Investigation Team.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said that the investigation has started after the complaint was filed on Thursday evening.

He said, "Last night around 10 pm, a lady registered a complaint against BS Yediyurappa. Police have registered the case. Until we know the truth, we can't reveal anything. This is a sensitive thing as it involves a former CM. I don't think there is any political angle to this. If the distressed woman needs protection, then it will be given."
