The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is set to soon initiate preliminary works for the third phase of the Namma Metro project, which is currently expanding across Bengaluru.

BMRCL Prepares Groundwork For Bengaluru Namma Metro Phase 3, Land Acquisition In Full Swing

The construction of two metro lines for the third phase of BMRCL is underway. The route spans from JP Nagar to Kempegowda (covering 32.1 km) along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Magadi Road, from Yelachenahalli to Kengeri (12.5 km). Some significant improvements are planned, and the Department of Urban Land Transport has yet to grant central approval for this DPR.

The Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs has suggested modifications along the Magadi Road route. The Karnataka government approved Rs 15,600 crore for the project in November 2022. The finance department has directed the initiation of the land acquisition process necessary for the project. Further steps await approval from the state cabinet secretary before commencing land acquisition. Approximately six months are required to obtain access to the land once the initial phase of land acquisition concludes.

Plans for constructing depots on a 100-acre plot (adjacent to the Byadarahalli Police Station on Magadi Road) are being contemplated, and the land has been earmarked accordingly. This proposed depot, catering to the expansive area of the third phase, will support two routes, as communicated by BMRCL sources. Once this depot is established, it will be the largest metro depot in the city. The integration process will occur through the proposed Peenya depot. The present Peenya depot will also be accessible as per the plan. A 25-acre plot has been identified for the construction of an overbridge. Subsequently, a survey for land acquisition will commence in the upcoming days.
