BJP Candidates For Karnataka: Ananthkumar Hegde Denied Ticket, Shettar To Contest From Belgaum

In the fifth list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has denied a ticket to six-time MP Anantkumar Hegde while fielding former Karnataka CM Jagadish Shettar from Belgaum despite opposition from a section of the party workers.

Hegde was recently in the news after creating a controversy by claiming that if it is necessary for the party to gain a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha and also come to power in more than 20 States to amend the Constitution aimed at setting right alleged distortions and unnecessary additions to it by the Congress.

"If the Constitution has to be amended - the Congress which fundamentally distorted the Constitution by forcefully filling unnecessary things in it, especially by bringing in laws that were aimed at suppressing the Hindu society - if all of this has to be changed it is not possible with this (current) majority," he said.

Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, who had lost to the Congress candidate Bhimanna Naik in the last year's assembly polls by just over 8000 votes, has been given a ticket to contest from the Uttar Kannada constituency.

Whereas Jagadish Shettar is replacing Mangala Angadi in Belgaum. He will be taking on Mrunal Ravindra Hebbalkar. Dr Sudhakar, who had lost in the Chikkaballapur constituency in the assembly polls, has been given the ticket for the Chikkaballapur Lok Sabha constituency.

Raja Amareshwara Naik will be contesting from Raichur.

The BJP and the JDS have formed an alliance for the Lok Sabha polls. As per the agreement, the regional party is contesting from six seats while the saffron party will be contesting from 26 seats.
