Big Relief For Consumers As Karnataka Slashes Electricity Tariffs Starting Today
Ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024, the Karnataka State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has decided to reduce electricity tariffs for domestic consumers, marking the first such reduction in over 15 years. This move is expected to bring relief and joy to households across the state.
The revised rates, effective today (April 1st, 2024), will be applicable for the entire financial year 2024-25.

Consumers who utilise more than 100 units of electricity per month will see the most benefit. Previously charged Rs. 7 per unit, they will now pay Rs. 5.90 per unit, translating to a welcome reduction of Rs. 1.10 per unit.
Even those consuming less than 100 units will see a decrease in their electricity bills. The new rate for this category has been set at Rs. 4.75 per unit.
It's important to note that beneficiaries of the government's Gruha Jyothi, which provides free electricity to households consuming less than 200 units, will not see the reduced rate reflected in their April bills. This is because the scheme already offers subsidized electricity. However, these beneficiaries will enjoy the reduced rates starting from their May bills onwards.
