BESCOM Will Disconnect Power For This Reason Starting September 1

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) announced on Friday that starting September 1, it will disconnect power supply if consumers fail to pay their electricity bills within 30 days of receipt or do not submit the required additional security deposit.

This measure, mandated by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), will be strictly implemented from September 1.

BESCOM Will Disconnect Power For This Reason Starting September 1

All domestic and commercial consumers, including those in apartments and with temporary connections, must ensure timely payment of their bills. BESCOM warned that failure to pay within 30 days will lead to disconnection on the meter reading day, typically within the first 15 days of each month.

Currently, meter readers, accompanied by linemen, revisit premises with overdue bills after the initial meter reading for potential disconnection. From September 1, however, linemen will join meter readers on the first visit and immediately disconnect power for overdue accounts.

Consumers have a 15-day period to pay bills without interest, followed by an additional 15-day grace period with interest. If the bill, including any additional security deposit, exceeds Rs 100 and remains unpaid, power will be cut on the next meter reading day.

BESCOM also noted that online payment delays might occur, and consumers should present their payment receipt to BESCOM staff to prevent disconnection.
