Bengaluru's Water Crisis: Dhruva Sarja Steps In With Tanker Deliveries

Kannada actor Dhruva Sarja took on a role beyond the silver screen, one that would truly make him a real-life hero.

In a gesture that touched the hearts of many, he set out to quench the thirst of the poor and needy in the city. As Bengaluru is witnessing a severe water crisis, he has come forward to do his bit.

He has provided drinking water to many people affected due to water crisis in the Kengeri region, according to a report in Suvarna News. His fans association is delivering water through tankers and viral video shows people hailing the good work carried out by the actor.

The initiative has provided significant relief to the people in the region, offering a much-needed respite. The Karnataka Dhruva Sarja Fans Association spearheaded this commendable effort.

The worsening water crisis is compelling residents to shell out exorbitant sums for water tankers. Previously, a 5,000-litre water tanker, priced at Rs 500 in the city, is now being sold for Rs 2,000.

Responding to the crisis, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said, "Of the 3,500 water tankers in Bengaluru, only 219 tankers, around 10 per cent, are registered with the BBMP and about 210 are being used by the BWSSB to supply water. Once the private tankers are registered, the government will fix the rate based on kilometers (distance from the source). The law states that water belongs to the government and is not a personal asset. I will hold a meeting with the tanker owners' association after March 7 to fix the rate and we will assign tankers to every ward, set up war rooms in every ward and a helpline to streamline supply," said Shivakumar, addressing a press meet following an emergency meeting on water scarcity held at Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagra Palike (BBMP) head office.
