Bengaluru's New Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) Project Gains Momentum, Key Stretch to Open This Month

The 288-km Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) is set to improve travel between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu by connecting to the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway (NE-7). This new expressway will make travel between the two states faster and reduce traffic congestion in Bengaluru. A key 21-km stretch of the STRR, from Hoskote to the Tamil Nadu border, is expected to open by March 2025.

Better Connectivity Between States

The Bangalore-Chennai Expressway passes through Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. It is a six-lane highway built for speeds of up to 100 kmph. The project, costing ₹17,000 crore, is expected to be completed by December 2025. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is in charge of building the road under a Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).

The STRR will act as a bypass for Bengaluru, helping reduce city traffic by diverting long-distance vehicles. This will make local travel smoother and also help in the transport of goods between Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

A toll-free 68-km section of the expressway in Karnataka is already helping 2,000 vehicles daily. The full STRR project is expected to be completed by 2027. The road will also pass through the Bannerghatta National Park (BNP) Eco-Sensitive Zone with measures to reduce environmental impact.

By linking the Bengaluru STRR with the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway, travel will become easier for both personal and commercial vehicles. The road will also reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai.

Varun Rao recently posted on social media about the progress of these projects, sharing pictures and updates. Many people are eagerly waiting for these roads to open, as they will make travel faster and smoother.

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway and STRR will transform road transport between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The opening of the STRR segment in March 2025 will be a big step toward faster travel, less congestion, and better trade between the two states.
