Namma Metro Yellow Line Prepares For Driverless Train Arrival, Chinese Experts On The Way

Bengaluru's long-awaited Namma Metro Yellow Line (R.V. Road-Bommasandra), connecting Electronic City, is finally on track for its soon-to-be-unveiled driverless technology. With the arrival of 21 Chinese technical experts, including loco-pilots, technicians, and engineers from CRRC, Bengaluru's first driverless train is set to arrive in India soon.

Their arrival, facilitated by the issuance of their visas, paves the way for the train's departure from China on December 15th. This marks a significant milestone for Bengaluru's public transportation system, promising a more efficient and futuristic experience for commuters.

The train is expected to reach Chennai Port initially and subsequently make its way to Bengaluru's Hebbagodi depot via road, arriving before Makara Sankranti (January 15). Despite initial target dates for November 2020, delays in implementing the Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) system pushed back the launch.

BMRCL officials emphasize the importance of having the requisite expertise for operating the train, especially due to its advanced signalling system. The warranty for the train also hinges on the assistance provided by CRRC staff.

A majority of the 65 CRRC technical staff awaiting work visas in India are essential for testing, managing, and providing guidance for the future manufacturing of remaining trains at Titagarh Wagons in West Bengal. Their expertise is crucial for operating the train with its advanced technology.

Regarding Reach-5's progress, sources indicate that 93% of the line's construction is already completed. This signifies the project's nearing completion, bringing the driverless metro experience closer to reality.
