Bengaluru's 250-Meter Sky Deck Project: Kengeri's Kempegowda Layout Finalised As Site
The location for Bengaluru's 250-meter sky deck project-promising panoramic views of the city and aiming to attract tourists-has been finalised after months of deliberation and site hunting. The Karnataka government has selected Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout near Kengeri as the official site. Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D. K. Shivakumar confirmed the decision, calling it a major step toward boosting the city's tourism and urban development.

Why Was Hemmigepura Dropped?
The sky deck was earlier planned at Hemmigepura, but authorities faced multiple hurdles. Shivakumar explained that the area lies within a 20-kilometre radius of Kempegowda International Airport, making it unsuitable for constructing tall structures due to aviation safety regulations. Also, most of the land there belonged to the Nandi Forest, making acquisition difficult.
"We have decided that it will come up on the land owned by BDA at the Kempegowda Layout. The area is also expected to get metro connectivity in the future and hence I have asked the officials to go ahead," Shivakumar said.
Why Kempegowda Layout?
The chosen site is a 25-acre plot owned by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). Senior BDA officials confirmed that the location not only meets regulatory requirements but is also strategically placed for future infrastructure expansion, including metro connectivity.
What to Expect from the Sky Deck?
The proposed structure will rise 250 meters above ground and offer panoramic views of Bengaluru. Once completed, it is expected to become a signature tourist destination, offering residents and visitors an entirely new perspective of the city's skyline.
Planned as part of a broader effort to position Bengaluru as a modern, tourism-friendly metropolis, the sky deck could serve as a key attraction - similar to observation towers in cities like Dubai, Toronto, and Singapore.
