Bengaluru's 250-Meter Sky Deck Gets Greenlight From Karnataka Cabinet
Karnataka Law Minister HK Patil announced that the cabinet has approved the construction of a massive sky deck in Bengaluru, which, according to the Congress government, will be the tallest in South Asia, standing at 250 meters.
Speaking to the press, Patil stated, "The Karnataka cabinet has decided to build the sky deck at an estimated cost of Rs. 500 crores. Additionally, constructing an underground tunnel from Hebbal to Silk Board junction is projected to cost Rs. 12,690 crores. The cabinet has also greenlit the opening of 52 new Indira Canteens in Bengaluru, and 592 Anganwadis will be established at a cost of Rs. 50 crores."

The 250-meter sky deck has been under consideration for some time and is expected to become a significant tourist attraction in Bengaluru. The government has reportedly narrowed down a few potential sites for the structure after thorough discussions.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar earlier commented, "The sky deck is one of the major projects aimed at attracting tourists to Bengaluru. This colossal structure requires 25 acres of land, and we are considering constructing it near NICE Road, as this location has received unanimous support from Bengaluru MLAs. However, the exact site is yet to be finalized."
Three sites were initially considered for the sky deck-Hemmigepura (near NICE Road), the Jnana Bharathi campus, and Kommaghatta. The 25-acre site in Hemmigepura, currently managed by NICE, has reportedly gained broad approval from state cabinet members due to its panoramic view of the Turahalli Forest and its proximity to NICE Road, with the Thalaghattapura Metro station about five kilometers away.
In earlier cabinet meetings, the Karnataka government also approved renaming Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South, a decision announced by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
