Bengaluru Water Crisis: Half-Bucket Baths To Emergency Numbers, Know What's The Situation In Namma Bangalore

Bengaluru Water Crisis: In view of the ongoing water crisis in Bengaluru, the state government and authorities have asked citizens to use, and reuse water carefully and avoid wasting it. According to the reports, some of the residents associations have asked people to stop wasting water in washing cars and balconies, to bathe with half a bucket of water, and even use a "half flush" after daily ablutions.

A drought-like situation has arisen in the metropolitan city following the drying of water borewells, low levels of groundwater, untrammeled growth, complete disregard of the city's natural water bodies, and excess demand.

Taking cognizance of the water crisis, Karnataka Deputy CM and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar has directed the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) officials to take over all irrigation and commercial borewells in the metropolitan city.

"Of the 16,781 borewells in our records, 6,997 borewells have dried up. The remaining 7,784 are operational. The government will be drilling new borewells," DK Shiv Kumar said.

To tackle the water crisis and help citizens, CM Siddaramaiah's office has issued helpline numbers that will connect people with local legislators and authorities to know about water timings and availability.

The reports added that out of 236 taluks in the state, 223 have been drought-hit, including 219 severely affected.

An official told the media "The crisis may worsen if there is no good rain in the coming days as already close to half the borewells have dried up."

"Since the BWSSB water supply is erratic now, I buy water every other day. I have to make a separate budget for water. And even then, the quality that is supplied is terrible, and some days, I found worms inside," said a resident who paid high prices for water.
