Bengaluru: Two Nigerian Women Arrested With Rs 75 Crore MDMA At KIA

Two Nigerian women have been arrested at Bengaluru airport with over 37 kg of drugs worth ₹75 crore, marking the largest drug seizure in Karnataka's history, police announced on Sunday.

The suspects, identified as Bamba Fanta, 31, and Abigail Adonis, 30, were apprehended upon their arrival from Delhi, carrying MDMA concealed in their trolley bags, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal informed reporters.

Authorities also confiscated four mobile phones, passports, and ₹18,000 in cash from the women, reported NDTV.

The duo, who resided in Delhi, were engaged in smuggling MDMA across India, primarily using air routes. Over the past year, they had reportedly travelled to Mumbai 37 times and Bengaluru 22 times for drug distribution, the officer stated.

Fanta had entered India in 2020 on a business visa, while Adonis had been living in the country since 2016. They had allegedly been involved in drug trafficking for the past one to two years, according to Mr Agrawal.

The police commissioner revealed that the operation originated from an arrest six months ago, when a man named Haider Ali was caught in Mangaluru with 15 grams of MDMA.

Subsequent investigations led authorities to a Nigerian national named Peter, who was later arrested in Bengaluru with 6 kg of MDMA, he added.
