Bengaluru traffic woes enter schools: Students' lunch break time reduced!

Bengaluru, Jan 14: The increasing traffic issue in city has compelled a school authority to reduce the time limit of lunch break. The new idea is to make ensure that children get mandate learning hours.

A renowned Shanthinikethana school which is situated in south Bengaluru in Girinagar told OneIndia that they have scaled down their lunch break time by 15 minutes as against the time 1 hour.

However, the rule of the government says that every school must allot compulsory one hour break in the afternoon for lunch. But there is no time limit for ICSE and CBSE schools.

School official further added, "as thirty-minutes are enough for child to have their lunch, the students were dedicating the left out time in the in the earlier stipulated 1 hour to play."

One of the parents whose children study in Holy Spirit School told OneIndia that, "we know that most of the schools are helpless, but children have to bear the brunt. 30 minutes are very less for any kid to finish the food."

"As thirty minute will not be enough for pre-primary school children because most of the children eat slow and amendment will effect their health."

Expressing concerns over children's health, he even said, "this revised time has turned into a monster for most of the children." He pointed that "my child is not able to finish her lunch in this limited time and repeated complaints to parents by the mentors on slow intake of food by the child, will derail healthy diet."

Bengaluru traffic snarls has become a major cause of concern, as children are forced to spend most of their time on roads. Hence, Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) must take some efforts to complete metro project and bus connectivity as well as infrastructure, to make commuting convenient.
