Bengaluru Traffic to Improve Soon as 5.5 km Hennur–Bagalur Road Nears Completion, June 15 Deadline Set

After months of disruption and slow-moving vehicles, there's finally some relief in sight for Bengaluru traffic along one of the city's fast-growing corridors. The long-pending white-topping work on the 5.5 km Hennur-Bagalur Road is now nearing completion, with officials confirming that the main carriageway will be ready by May, and the entire project is set for completion by June 15.

The ₹86.29 crore project, which began in April 2025 with an 11-month timeline, had faced significant delays due to strict traffic management conditions. Work was initially restricted to only a quarter stretch of the road at a time, as permissions from traffic police were limited. Each completed section had to be reopened before work could proceed on the next, creating a staggered and time-consuming execution process. Adding to the challenge, construction was largely confined to night hours, further slowing progress and prolonging the impact on Bengaluru traffic.

However, in the last four months, the pace has picked up noticeably. Authorities relaxed permissions, allowing work on up to half the road simultaneously, which accelerated execution. With this shift, the project has moved quickly into its final phase, and the carriageway work is now almost complete.

The road upgrade spans a crucial 5.5 km stretch from Hennur Cross to Bagalur Cross, cutting across two Assembly constituencies and serving as a key route for daily commuters. So far, 4.2 km on one side and 2.2 km on the other side have already been completed, bringing the project close to its finish line.

Alongside the main road work, development of footpaths and buffer zones has also begun and is progressing in parallel. These additional improvements are expected to take around three months after the main carriageway is completed, ensuring a more structured and pedestrian-friendly corridor.

For commuters, the impact could be significant. Once fully completed, the upgraded stretch is expected to ease congestion, improve travel time and bring smoother movement to Bengaluru traffic in this rapidly developing belt.

After delays and phased execution, the Hennur-Bagalur Road white-topping project is finally back on track. With May for road completion and June 15 as the final deadline, Bengaluru traffic could soon see a much-needed upgrade on this critical stretch.
