Bengaluru Traffic Alert: Peenya Flyover To Be Closed For 4 Days Starting Tonight
The Peenya Flyover, a vital artery connecting Bangalore to various destinations, will be closed for four days starting tonight (January 16th, 2024). This temporary closure is necessary for conducting background load testing on the viaduct installed along the Peenya Elevated Highway, also known as Dr. Shivakumara Swamiji Flyover, situated on National Highway-4.
The flyover will be inaccessible from 11:00 PM on January 16 to 11:00 AM on January 21. Traffic authorities have advised motorists to seek alternative routes and utilize service roads during this period.

For those traveling from Nelamangala towards Bengaluru city via the flyover road, the suggested alternative route is to reach Gorguntepalya through NH-4 near the Kennametal Vidya flyover and the service road via 8th mile-Dasarahalli, Jalahalli cross, Peenya police station junction-SRS junction.
Vehicles on the flyover road from CMTI Junction heading towards Nelamangala can pass through SRS Junction, Peenya Police Station Junction, Jalahalli Cross, Dasarahalli-8th Mile on NH-4, and the Service Road adjacent to the flyover to reach the Parle-G toll.
The temporary closure is attributed to the integrity and load testing of the viaduct spanning the 5 km Peenya flyover, extending from Gorguntepalya on Tumkur Road to Parle G Factory in Nagasandra.
Almost a year and a half ago, heavy vehicle traffic, including lorries and buses, was curtailed on the Peenya flyover. This action followed a report from IISC, submitted to the government two years prior, highlighting a technical defect in the flyover that rendered it unsuitable for the movement of solid vehicles.
