Bengaluru Techie Death Case: Atul Subhash's Wife Nikita Singhania Alleges Physical, Mental Torture for Dowry

Atul Subhash, an AI professional, tragically ended his life, sparking a widespread discussion about the allegations of harassment by his wife, Nikita Singhania, which reportedly led to his drastic step. Amidst the turmoil, a complaint surfaced from 2022, filed by Ms. Singhania in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur, accusing Subhash and his family of harassment and assault for dowry. This complaint painted a disturbing picture of their marriage, alleging a demand for a dowry of Rs 10 lakh and subjected her to physical and mental torture. She detailed instances of being beaten and financially manipulated, stating her entire salary was forcibly taken by Subhash.

The seriousness of the situation further deepens with the charges against Nikita Singhania, her family members, including her mother Nisha, brother Anurag, and uncle Sushil, who now face accusations of abetting Subhash's suicide. These charges have been laid after Subhash took his life in his Bengaluru home, leaving behind a detailed suicide note that not only refutes the allegations made by his wife but also sheds light on the immense pressure and false cases he claimed were filed against him and his family. In his note, he expressed a heartbreaking sentiment that his demise would relieve his family from the harassment and financial extortion they faced, driven by the legal claims made by his wife for a hefty maintenance sum of Rs 2 lakh a month for herself and their four-year-old son.

Subhash's suicide note is a crucial piece of evidence that contradicts the allegations made by Singhania. He argued that the claim of dowry demand was unfounded, highlighting his substantial income, which made the dowry accusation appear illogical. "We demanded Rs 10 lakh dowry is the most laughable allegation. My wife has claimed that I had a CTC of Rs 40 lakhs when she left the house. My wife also claimed that I have a CTC of Rs 80 Lakhs later in the case. Why would a man making Rs 40 or 80 lakhs would ever demand Rs 10 lakhs and leave his wife and child," Subhash penned in his note, revealing the financial aspects of their strained relationship.

Moreover, he addressed the grievous charge of physical abuse raised by his wife. He pointed out the lack of evidence to support her claims of being assaulted, emphasizing the absence of any physical proof or witnesses. "I used to beat her up black and blue after getting drunk. A well-built man like me, if decides to beat someone black and blue, would leave a person with broken bones, bleeding and at least some marks. Why did she not produce any photo of it or anyone who is a witness," he questioned in the note.

In addition to defending himself against the accusations of dowry and abuse, Subhash also refuted the claim that his family's actions led to Ms. Singhania's father's death. He described this accusation as a "poor Bollywood plot," stating that her father had been battling long-term illnesses and was under medical care for a decade. "Me and my family murdered her father by asking for dowry of Rs 10 lakhs and her father got a heart attack. This is some poor Bollywood plot. She has already confessed that her father was suffering from long-term illness in her cross examination. Her father was getting treated from AIIMS for the last 10 years for heart disease, diabetes etc. Doctors gave him a few months and hence we got married quickly after just a few months after getting connected," Subhash wrote, countering the narrative of dowry-induced stress leading to her father's sudden demise.
