Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project To Be completed By 2027, Gets Rs 4561 Cr Funding For 58 Stations

In a significant development, Karnataka Minister MB Patil announced that an agreement worth Rs 4,561 crore has been inked with Germany's state-owned development bank KfW for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project. The bank plans to provide a loan of Rs 4,561 crore with an annual interest rate of four per cent, repayable over a period of 20 years.

The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project aims to construct 148 kilometers of railway tracks across four corridors, bridging the connectivity gap between Bangalore city and its outer zones. Minister Patil emphasized that two of these corridors are already in the final stages of development, marking a crucial milestone in the project's progression.

"The objective is to finalize projects across all four corridors, slated for completion by December 2027. The execution of BSRP, supported by the loan, aims to enhance citizen mobility, decrease vehicular pollution, and foster a healthier environment, thereby enhancing the quality of life in Bengaluru," stated the minister.

In the presence of Patil, who oversees the infrastructure development portfolio, N Manjula, Managing Director of K-RIDE (Rail Infrastructure Development Company-Karnataka), the nodal agency responsible for project completion, and Wolf Muth, Country Director of KFW Development Bank, signed and exchanged the documents.

Once operational, these corridors are expected to cater to approximately 10 lakh commuters daily, significantly alleviating vehicular congestion within Bengaluru city. The project is being financed through a combination of state government funds, central government assistance, and loans, with the primary objective of enhancing urban mobility and easing traffic woes.

The Bengaluru Suburban Railway network will comprise a total of 58 stations, facilitating seamless travel for commuters across the city's diverse locales.
