Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project Corridor 2 Steams Ahead Towards Completion

The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) corridor-2, a crucial link between Baiyyappanahalli Terminal and Chikkabanavara spanning 25.01 kilometers, is rapidly progressing and is on track to meet its ambitious deadline within the next 23 months. The Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company Limited (K-RIDE) recently unveiled significant developments along this corridor, shedding light on the extensive work underway across various sections.

At Shettyhalli, the critical process of raft curing is presently ongoing, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail and construction quality in this phase of the project. Simultaneously, the site at Shampura witnesses the active slab shuttering work for Minor Bridge 552, indicating substantial structural advancements. Furthermore, haunch concerting operations are in full swing at Lingarapuram, emphasizing the multi-faceted nature of the ongoing construction activities.

Near Hebbal, the Earth Retaining Structure (ERS) raft top reinforcement binding work is in progress, demonstrating the intricate stages involved in ensuring structural integrity. Meanwhile, concrete work at Lingarapuram and u-Grinder reinforcement activities at Golahalli signify the comprehensive efforts being made to execute various aspects of this substantial infrastructure endeavor.

In tandem with the on-site advancements, K-RIDE has initiated preliminary phases of the Suburban Rail Project, encompassing crucial tasks such as land surveys, recruitment procedures, and other essential administrative formalities. The prioritization of two key lines, namely the Mallige Line and the Kanaka Line, aligns with the strategic approach outlined by the Government of Karnataka for the project's initial phases. Notably, these lines derive their names from indigenous flowers, symbolizing local identity and regional significance.

Upon completion, this suburban rail corridor aims to set a precedent in India, boasting metro-like amenities and cutting-edge rolling stock. However, while emphasizing modern facilities, it's noteworthy that this proposed transport system might feature the slowest design speed among ongoing suburban rail projects in the country.

Despite this, the Bengaluru Suburban Rail, coupled with other upcoming rail-based public transportation systems like the Hyperloop, High-Speed Airport Train, Intercity trains, Metro rail, Metro Neo, and Metrolite, is poised to revolutionize commuting for the city's populace. The Mallige Line, one of the corridor's integral segments, spanning from Baiyyappanahalli Terminal to Chikkabanavara, delineates its specifics: a combination of elevated (7.723 km) and at-grade (17.143 km) tracks, encompassing fourteen stations.

With a depot stationed at Jalahalli, this segment hosts six elevated and eight at-grade stations, strategically placed to optimize connectivity and accessibility. The significance of interchange stations like Yesvantpur, Lottegollahalli, and Baiyapanahalli further enhances the corridor's integration within Bengaluru's existing and future transport infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the last date for submitting tenders for the shifting of electrical utilities infringing proposed Corridor-4 of BSRP (Heelalige - Rajankunte section) is December 11, 2023.
