11 Dead in Stampede Near Chinnaswamy Stadium as RCB Fans Storm Gates
At least 11 people have died and over 50 others were injured in a stampede-like situation outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday evening, as massive crowds of RCB fans gathered for the team's IPL 2025 victory celebration.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had organised a felicitation ceremony to honour the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for their maiden IPL title win. But crowd control measures failed as thousands of fans surged toward the gates hours before the event began.

Chaos at the Gates
According to eyewitnesses, the crowd started swelling around 3:00 PM. Many fans, desperate to catch a glimpse of their favourite players, broke through barricades and attempted to storm the stadium gates.
Police resorted to lathicharge as the situation worsened, but the uncontrolled rush led to a stampede, resulting in fatalities and injuries. Several people fell and were trampled in the chaos.
In response to the overwhelming footfall, Namma Metro authorities suspended services at three stations near the venue - Cubbon Park, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Station, and Vidhana Soudha - to prevent further crowding. Despite these measures, large groups continued to arrive, raising questions about the adequacy of crowd control and planning for such a large-scale public event.
Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said: "I apologise to the people of Karnataka and Bengaluru. We wanted to take a procession but the crowd was very uncontrollable so we dropped that procession."
