Bengaluru South District: Karnataka Renames Ramanagara District, Revenue Dept To Begin Process

The Karnataka government has decided to rename Ramanagara district as "Bengaluru South." This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday.

"We have decided to rename Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South based on the demand of the people there. The Revenue Department will initiate the process," stated Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil.

Addressing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Patil clarified, "Only the name of the district will change; everything else will remain the same."

The proposal to rename the neighboring Ramanagara district, which includes the taluks of Ramanagara, Magadi, Kanakapura, Channapatna, and Harohalli, recently gained momentum. A delegation led by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar had met with the Chief Minister and submitted a memorandum to push for the change.

The state cabinet approved the renaming of Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South, with Minister HK Patil confirming the decision to the PTI news agency. "We have decided to rename Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South based on the demand of the people there. The Revenue Department will start the process," Patil reiterated.

Following the Cabinet meeting, Patil emphasized that only the district's name would change, and all other aspects would remain the same.

Earlier this month, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar led a delegation that submitted a proposal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, advocating for the renaming of Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South.

The district of Ramanagara comprises five taluks: Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi, Kanakapura, and Harohalli. According to Shivakumar's memorandum, renaming the district to Bengaluru South will help these taluks benefit from the international reputation enjoyed by Bengaluru.
