Bengaluru Second Airport Location: Magadi And Dabaspet Land Identified

In response to the increasing number of passengers and air traffic at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru, the authorities are exploring the construction of a second international airport near the city. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has instructed a survey of the taluks around Bengaluru to identify suitable locations for the second airport.

Under the leadership of Karnataka Large and Medium Industries Minister MB Patil, officials are actively planning the construction of the second airport. Surveys have been conducted in areas near Solur and Dabaspet, located between Nelamangala and Magadi taluks, which have been identified as suitable locations due to their strategic position and infrastructure connections.

Bengaluru Second Airport Location Magadi And Dabaspet Sites Identified

Bengaluru second airport location:

The area between Magadi taluk and Nelamangala has been deemed ideal for the new airport. It offers excellent connectivity through the Bengaluru-Mangalore National Highway, Ramanagara-Dabaspet State Highway, and Bangalore-Shivamogga National Highway. The proximity to Koratagere, Shira, Pavagada, Madhugiri, and Dabaspet enhances its suitability.

Tumakuru-Chitradurga Stretch Also Explored

A proposal has also been submitted by Tumkur, where 8,000 acres of land between Tumkur, Madhugiri, Koratagere, and Shira have been identified for the airport. The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) is reviewing this proposal. Additionally, officials from the Department of Heavy Industries have begun searching for locations between Tumkur and Chitradurga.

Dabaspet, located at the intersection of Ramanagara District, Tumkur, and Bangalore Rural Districts, is another potential site for the airport. This area offers extensive land and convenient access to K-ship roads, making it a favorable option for the airport project.

According to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) guidelines, no new airport can be established within 150 km of an existing airport to avoid air traffic issues. Therefore, authorities are carefully considering locations outside this radius to ensure smooth operations for both airports.

Officials are conducting surveys in Magadi taluk, Solur, and Dabaspet. Building an airport in these areas would benefit Tumkur, Ramanagara, Maddur, and Hassan districts, providing them with improved air connectivity. Magadi MLA H.C. Balakrishna emphasized the quality road facilities in these regions, enhancing their appeal for the new airport.

Preferred locations for second airport:

Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara mentioned that selecting a location between Bengaluru and Shira, Pavagada, or Chitradurga would be ideal. He confirmed that 8,000 acres of land in Tumkur district are being considered for the project.

It must be noted that the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) proposed in 2020 that the government construct a new airport, citing projections that by 2030, the current airport will reach full capacity. They highlighted that a second airport would enhance affordability, competitiveness, and connectivity.

With multiple proposals and ongoing surveys, the authorities are committed to identifying the best possible location for Bangalore's second international airport, which will significantly boost connectivity and support the region's growing air traffic demands.
