Bengaluru’s New 10.7-KM MAR Road Nears Opening; Travel Between Mysuru Road And Magadi Road To Get Faster
Bengaluru is set to get a major new road corridor as the 10.7-kilometre-long Mysuru Road-Magadi Road MAR (Main Arterial Road) project has entered its final stage. The Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) is now preparing to open the massive ten-lane stretch for public use within the next 15 days, offering major relief for commuters travelling between South and West Bengaluru.
Named after former Karnataka Chief Minister S. M. Krishna, the new corridor is expected to transform connectivity around Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout by directly linking all nine blocks through a wide, signal-free route.

The 300-foot-wide road connects Challaghatta on Mysuru Road to Kadabagere Cross on Magadi Road and has been designed as a toll-free corridor. Officials believe the project will help reduce congestion across several outer Bengaluru stretches while also cutting travel time and fuel consumption for daily commuters.
The BDA first launched the project in 2018 with the aim of improving access to Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout. For the development of the corridor, around 321.21 acres of land were acquired. While the original project estimate stood at ₹465 crore, delays, technical hurdles and additional works have reportedly pushed the total expenditure to nearly ₹631 crore.
The new MAR corridor passes near Kambipura, K. Krishnasagara, Bheemanakuppe, Kommaghatta, Kanchanapura and Sulikere villages. Officials have also developed 17 service road access points along the stretch to improve local connectivity.

Several modern infrastructure features have been added as part of the project. Three large underpasses have been constructed at key stretches along the corridor, while 64 minor bridges have been built to support water flow and internal movement within the surrounding layout areas.

One of the biggest engineering components of the project - a 250-metre-long tunnel road and railway underpass near Challaghatta - has also been completed. At present, final asphalting, lane marking and painting works are underway and are expected to be completed within a week.
The project was originally expected to be completed earlier this year, but continuous rainfall in Bengaluru delayed work near the Challaghatta railway underpass. Officials also faced delays in securing railway approvals required for girder installation over the tracks.
To speed up the pending works, the BDA reportedly deployed additional workers and carried out round-the-clock construction activities over the past few weeks.
Once opened, the corridor is expected to offer major benefits for commuters travelling from Hassan and Kunigal via Magadi Road as well as from Mandya, Ramanagara and Bidadi through Mysuru Road. Motorists will be able to bypass central Bengaluru traffic and access outer parts of the city more quickly.
The MAR corridor also runs close to NICE Road, improving access to multiple layouts and outer-ring transport routes. Officials believe the project could significantly ease pressure on Bengaluru's growing peripheral traffic network once fully operational.
