Bengaluru’s Hebbal Flyover Loop Opens Monday, Linking Nagawara, KR Puram, and Mekhri Circle

The Hebbal flyover loop in Bengaluru will officially open to public traffic on Monday at 9 AM. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will inaugurate the new ramp after successful trial runs.

The 700-metre-long ramp, built at a cost of around ₹80 crore, connects Nagawara to KR Puram and Mekhri Circle. Officials estimate that the new flyover extension could reduce traffic congestion at Hebbal Junction by up to 30%, offering smoother travel for commuters heading towards the airport and central Bengaluru.

During the two-day trial run, officials observed smoother traffic movement at Hebbal but also identified a potential bottleneck at Mekhri Circle. A senior police officer noted that jams occurred near the underpass, affecting feeder roads in the area.

Authorities believe road expansion near Mekhri Circle is necessary to fully absorb the new traffic flow. The BBMP has already identified Defence Department land for the project, which would allow vehicles to take a free left turn towards RT Nagar, Jayamahal, and Vasanth Nagar.

Possible Traffic Impact Near Baptist Hospital

While the new Hebbal flyover loop will ease congestion at one of Bengaluru's busiest junctions, traffic from the airport, Nagawara (via the new ramp), and Bhoopasandra may converge near Baptist Hospital.

Officials are considering relocating bus stops near the hospital to manage traffic better. A final decision will be taken after traffic flow is monitored for the next two weeks.

Traffic Relief in Bengaluru

The opening of the Hebbal flyover loop is expected to bring much-needed relief to Bengaluru's notorious traffic snarls. However, the city's traffic police and civic agencies remain cautious, as diversions and changes could shift congestion to nearby areas.

The inauguration not only marks the completion of a key infrastructure project started in 2023 but also signals Bengaluru's ongoing push to tackle its growing traffic crisis.
