Bengaluru’s Alternative to Ola & Uber Taxis Is Here—How Is It Different?
Bengaluru commuters now have an alternative to app-based ride services like Ola and Uber with the introduction of Nagara Metered Taxis. Unlike app-based ride services that often charge surge pricing during peak hours or rain, these taxis ensure fair pricing through a meter-based fare system.
How Nagara Metered Taxis Work?

Passengers can identify available taxis through a simple green and red light indicator:
- Green Light - Taxi is available for hire.
- Red Light - Taxi is occupied.
With no hidden charges, these taxis aim to provide an affordable and transparent commuting experience for Bengaluru residents.
The official Nagara Metered Auto account took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the upcoming launch,"Coming soon Bengaluru!! Thanks for your patience. We have been working very hard and our tech stack is coming up nicely.
Please do watch this short video on how Nagara is going to completely transform mobility through professional drivers. Our business model is based on the core principles of transparency, regulatory compliance, and fare reliability."
App-Based Booking Coming Soon
While passengers can currently hail these taxis directly on the streets, a dedicated app is in the works. Once launched, the app will allow users to book rides conveniently by providing pickup and drop-off details. However, the fare will still be calculated based on the taxi meter, ensuring price transparency.
The only additional cost is a 10% surcharge between midnight and 6 a.m., making late-night travel safer and more accessible.
Residents of Bengaluru are excited about this trustworthy and affordable alternative to app-based ride services. The initiative aims to make everyday travel hassle-free and transparent, with taxis available across the city. Until the app is live, passengers can continue to hail Nagara Metered Taxis directly on the street.
