Bengaluru Rains: Rains Along With Hailstorm And Intense Thunderstorms Hit The City
Bengaluru finally received a much-needed break from the scorching heat on Monday, May 6th, 2024. The arrival of rains, accompanied by hailstorms and intense thunderstorms, brought a welcome reprieve to Bengaluru residents. Some areas experienced heavier downpours, further enhancing the relief felt across the city.
However, the downpour also resulted in waterlogging at 33 locations and fallen trees at 16 spots across the city, adding to the challenges faced by residents.
Current Weather:

Intensifying Thunderstorm: The southeast corner of the city is currently experiencing an intense thunderstorm, while pop-up showers are scattered across eastern, northeastern, and western areas. Second round of rains were also repoted in Bengaluru South and Southwest- JP Nagar, Hormavu, Bommanhalli, Ramamurthy Nagar, Ayyapa Nagar.

Heavy Rainfall in Specific Locations: Banaswadi, Electronic City, Bommasandra, Chandapura, and surrounding areas in Anekal taluka are witnessing good rainfall.

According to their tweet on X, the downpour resulted in waterlogging at 33 locations and tree falls at 16 spots across the city. These incidents have led to considerable traffic congestion at various places, prompting the Bengaluru Traffic Police to take immediate action.

These recent showers are seens as an improvement compared to the past five months. The rain not only brings relief from high temperatures but also helps improve air quality by reducing dust and pollutants.
Weather Alerts Issued:
Despite the rain, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has issued a yellow alert for heatwave in Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkaballapura, and Kolar districts, valid until May 7th at 8:30 AM. Additionally, a yellow alert for thunderstorms remains in effect for Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagara, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, and Tumkuru districts until May 7th at 8:30 AM.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a minimum temperature of 24°C and a maximum temperature of 38°C for Bengaluru on May 6th, with generally cloudy skies and light rain. They also forecast partly cloudy skies with occasional rain or thundershowers for May 7th.
While the rain is a welcome change, residents should remain cautious. Heavy downpours can lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas. Staying updated with weather forecasts and taking necessary precautions during the rainy season is crucial.
