Bengaluru Property Tax Dues: When Is The Last Date To Settle?

Property tax dues amounting to ₹548.94 crore remain unpaid across nearly 2.88 lakh properties in eight zones of Bengaluru, as reported by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on July 30.

July 31 marks the final day to avail of the 5% rebate under the one-time settlement scheme for property tax, which also offers a 50% concession on penalties and a 100% concession on interest payments for property tax defaulters.

It is important to note that Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who also oversees Bengaluru City Development, introduced a new property tax system in March to streamline tax collection and enhance revenue. He also announced a one-time settlement option for property owners who have never paid taxes.

The payment window for outstanding property taxes in Bengaluru was extended from April 30 to July 31 this year to provide relief to property owners. Shivakumar, however, ruled out any further extension beyond the July 31 deadline.

Deputy CM Shivakumar has stated that those who fail to clear their arrears by July 31 will be considered defaulters from August 1.

Mahadevapura zone leads with over 60,000 properties having dues totaling ₹124.23 crore, followed by Bommanahalli with ₹71.10 crore in dues from 45,381 properties.

According to BBMP data, property tax on 1,07,344 properties amounting to ₹184.77 crore was paid between April 1 and July 29.

The data also revealed that revision cases involving 16,904 properties with dues totaling ₹282.59 crore remain pending as of July 29, 2024. The West zone, which includes localities such as Binnipete, Basavanagudi, Hanumanth Nagar, and Jayanagar, has the highest number of pending cases, with 3,474 properties involved.
