Bengaluru Power Cut Today, January 2: Nagarabhavi and Nearby Areas to Face 7-Hour Outage

Several parts of Bengaluru will experience a planned power outage today, Friday, January 2, 2026, as Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) carries out scheduled maintenance work. The outage will affect areas under the Nagarabhavi division, with electricity supply set to be suspended for seven hours.

According to an official notice issued by BESCOM on January 1, the power cut will be in effect from 10 am to 5 pm. Residents, shops and offices in the affected locations have been advised to make necessary arrangements in advance.

The scheduled outage will impact multiple residential and commercial pockets within the Nagarabhavi division. Areas listed in the BESCOM notice include:

• Kalidasa Layout
• Shanthinagar
• Kottigepalya

Water Supply and Pumping Station areas

Surrounding localities connected to the same power feeders

Essential services that depend on local pumping stations may also be affected during the outage period.

Why BESCOM Is Cutting Power

BESCOM said the shutdown is required to carry out infrastructure-related maintenance work aimed at improving the long-term reliability and safety of the power network. The planned work includes strengthening distribution lines, upgrading safety systems, and maintenance activities at substations supplying electricity to the Nagarabhavi division.

Officials said such scheduled outages help prevent unexpected breakdowns and ensure smoother power supply in the future.

The utility clarified that the power cut is temporary and limited to the announced date and time. Supply is expected to be restored once maintenance work is completed, subject to weather and technical conditions.
