Bengaluru PGs To Hike Rent: Residents Brace for Increased Costs
In a surprising turn of events, students and employees residing in private hostels and paying guest accommodations (PGs) across Bengaluru are bracing for a rent hike. The PG Association has announced plans to increase rental rates, citing challenges in managing operational costs due to rising prices of essential commodities.
Why the Hike?

Despite refraining from raising rents even during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic, the PG Association now finds itself compelled to take this step. The rising costs of utilities such as water, groceries, and rent for private buildings have reportedly made it difficult for PG owners to maintain their facilities.
According to sources, the association plans to convene a meeting with PG owners within the next three to four days to finalize the rate hike. This decision, though inevitable, has left many residents shocked and concerned about their budgets.
A Uniform Increase?
Currently, PG accommodations in Bengaluru vary in pricing depending on the location and facilities offered. The association has hinted at a proposed 5% increase in rents across the board. However, the exact percentage might vary and will be confirmed after discussions with PG owners.
The announcement has taken many PG residents by surprise. "We were not expecting a hike, especially after no increases were made even during the pandemic," said a resident. The potential rise in expenses has left many students and professionals grappling with the reality of higher living costs in the city.
The official decision regarding the hike and its implementation timeline is expected to be announced soon.
