Due to the heavy rainfall in the region, the Bengaluru District Collector has declared a holiday for all schools and anganwadis in the city today, October 21.

Commuters took to social media platform X to report traffic congestion after the Hosur Sarjapura (HSR) Layout experienced flooding.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a weather warning for heavy rains across Karnataka and coastal regions of India, attributed to Cyclone Dana, which is expected to make landfall in Odisha and West Bengal around October 23.

Furthermore, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and Andhra Pradesh today.

Cyclone Dana is expected to impact West Bengal and Odisha on October 23. IMD Director-General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra stated that the cyclonic circulation is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm, leading to heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha and West Bengal starting October 23.

For Odisha, the IMD has issued a red alert for isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (ranging from 7 to 20 cm) and the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall (exceeding 20 cm), along with thunderstorms and lightning, particularly for the districts of Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, and Jagatsinghpur on October 24.

"Some areas in the coastal region may see rainfall of 20 cm on October 24-25. The intensity of the rainfall could increase to 20 to 30 cm, and possibly above 30 cm in certain locations," ANI quoted Mohapatra as saying.
