The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, along with the National Co-operative Consumers' Federation of India Ltd (NCCF), has initiated a scheme to provide essential food grains at reduced prices in Bengaluru. This initiative aims to alleviate the burden of rising prices for residents by offering high-quality grains at affordable rates.
Under this scheme, various essential grains are available at significantly lower prices compared to market rates. Bharat rice is priced at Rs 34, while Bharat wheat flour is Rs 30. Additionally, Bharat Chana Dal is offered at Rs 70, and Bharat Moong Dal is available for Rs 107. In contrast, the usual market prices for these items range from Rs 55-60 for rice, Rs 45-50 for atta, Rs 90-100 for dal, and Rs 120-130 for moong dal.

Affordable Grains Initiative
This initiative was launched on October 30 in Bengaluru following directives from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi, along with Union Ministers Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya and B L Verma, played key roles in its implementation. The scheme is part of Phase 2 of Bharath products distribution.
Pralhad Joshi emphasized the importance of this scheme in ensuring access to quality grains at reasonable prices. "It reflects our commitment towards the welfare of the people," he stated. The initiative underscores the government's dedication to supporting citizens amid economic challenges.
The NCCF's press statement highlighted that these efforts are designed to make essential food items more accessible to Bengaluru's population. By reducing costs on staple foods like rice and wheat flour, the government aims to ease financial pressures on households.
This programme represents a significant step towards addressing inflation-related concerns in the region. By providing affordable alternatives to commonly consumed grains, it seeks to improve living standards and promote economic stability among residents.
