Bengaluru Namma Metro Turns Lost And Found Into Profit; Auctions Generate Over 7.4 Lakh In 5 Years
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has turned "lost and found" into a source of income, collecting over 7.4 lakh rupees in the past five years by auctioning off items left behind by commuters.
Over the past five years, BMRCL has auctioned off 6,354 items that commuters did not claim. According to a report by TOI, these items have brought the corporation approximately 7.4 lakh rupees.

Apart from the unclaimed items left behind by passengers, including water bottles, helmets, lunch boxes, bags, umbrellas, and other articles, officials have provided information.
For passengers' safety concerns, BMRCL hasn't auctioned off the electronic gadgets left behind by commuters. Instead, these items have been handed over to the police. BMRCL has clarified that a total of 1,402 items from the purple line and 4,952 items from the green line have been auctioned off.
Before the auction, BMRCL provided information about the unclaimed items on its website for public viewing. The contact numbers given there are available for commuters to reclaim the articles. In Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), an average of 2.66 lakh commuters has been served daily. Official data indicates that 80.01 lakh passengers used Chennai Metro Rail in a month. On November 10, the highest number of passengers, 3.35 lakh, traveled on the metro.
For their travel, these commuters have used smart cards, paper QR tickets, NCMC cards, online booked QR-code tickets, and static QR codes at stations. This information has been provided by the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation.
