Bengaluru Namma Metro Goes Big, Phase III Promises Double Decker Sections And More

Bengaluru's Namma Metro is gearing up for a massive leap forward with Phase III of its expansion. This ambitious project aims to connect new areas across the city, significantly improving connectivity and easing the daily commute for countless residents. Construction is expected to kick off by the end of 2024 or early 2025.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) is meticulously preparing for this next phase. A crucial step in these preparations is the upcoming Geotechnical Investigation - a comprehensive survey that will delve deep into the geological makeup of the proposed metro routes. This Rs 6 crore project, starting next week, will analyze soil stability, rock formations, and other crucial factors. Understanding the ground conditions will be paramount for the safe and efficient construction of metro infrastructure.

"By drilling into the ground at various points," explains Yashwant Chauhan, BMRCL's Chief Public Relations Officer, "we can assess the suitability of the land for metro construction." This investigation will also involve a thorough examination of future station sites, ensuring optimal construction plans.

Innovation is also at the forefront of Phase III. Inspired by the success of the double-decker model implemented in the Electronic City route, BMRCL is exploring the feasibility of replicating this design. Tender evaluations are currently underway, with the potential for double-decker sections enhancing efficiency and maximising space utilization.
