Bengaluru Metro Fare Hike Expected In December Despite Commuters Opposition
Commuters in Bengaluru may soon experience a metro fare hike as the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) moves closer to finalizing a price revision. Amid escalating operational costs, BMRCL has actively sought public feedback on the fare adjustment, but the majority of respondents have expressed opposition to the increase.
Over the past 25 days, BMRCL's fare-fixing committee gathered extensive public input on the proposed fare changes, with the feedback period running from October 3 to October 28. Many passengers voiced strong objections to a potential fare hike during this time.

Currently, Bengaluru Metro fares range from a minimum of Rs 10 to a maximum of Rs 60. If the fare revision is approved, it could result in an increase of up to 20%, raising the minimum fare to Rs 15 and the maximum fare to Rs 75. This adjustment is being considered in response to rising costs associated with operating and maintaining the metro lines.
The proposal for fare increases is largely attributed to these escalating operational expenses. Although public opinion was collected from 28 individuals starting October 3, most respondents disapproved of the fare hike during this period.
As Diwali celebrations conclude, metro commuters may feel the financial impact if the fare adjustment is implemented. The potential hike will affect the popular purple and green lines, impacting thousands of daily passengers.
BMRCL had previously solicited public feedback on the fare increase until August 21, with many opposing the proposed hike. However, the corporation is still planning to raise fares in light of the increasing operational costs and other financial considerations.
