Bengaluru Holiday On December 11: Namma Metro Services Open While Schools, Offices Remain Closed

The Karnataka government has declared a state holiday on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in remembrance of the late former Chief Minister SM Krishna, who died on December 10 at the age of 92. An official notification has confirmed that the holiday will apply to all government offices, schools, and colleges throughout the state.

Furthermore, the government has instituted a three-day mourning period from December 10 to 12. During this period, public entertainment events will be suspended, and national flags will be displayed at half-mast on all government facilities.

What Will Be Closed?

According to the announcement, all government offices, schools, and colleges, including aided educational institutions, will be closed on December 11 in honor of SM Krishna, who is highly esteemed for his significant contributions to the development of Karnataka.

Both public and private educational institutions will observe the holiday, with regular classes resuming on December 12.

Are Banks Open?

While schools and government offices will be closed, banks are expected to remain open unless directed otherwise by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Bank branches will operate as usual, allowing citizens to carry out necessary banking transactions.

Public Transport

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that Namma metro train services in the city will operate on schedule on December 11.

No official statements have been made by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), suggesting that public transport services will continue to operate as usual on December 11.

SM Krishna, who was Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004, significantly contributed to the transformation of Bengaluru into a global IT hub. His funeral will take place on December 11 in his hometown of Somanahalli, located in the Mandya district, and will be conducted with full state honors.

The state government has expressed that his passing is a profound loss and has called for citizens to observe the mourning period with due respect. Public events and entertainment activities will be prohibited during this period as a sign of tribute.
