Bengaluru Gas Leak Triggers Massive Explosion, Leaves Couple Severely Burned

A couple sustained severe injuries after an LPG cylinder explosion rocked their apartment in the early hours of Wednesday, police reported. The incident occurred in an apartment complex near Davis Road, Fraser Town, within the Pulikeshi Nagar police station limits.

The victims, identified as Selera and her husband, suffered extensive burn injuries and are currently in critical condition. Selera suffered 90 percent burns, while her husband suffered 70 percent burns. They were initially admitted to Victoria Hospital and are expected to be transferred to St. John's Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Explosion Due to Suspected Gas Leak

According to preliminary investigations, the explosion occurred around 5 AM when Selera's husband went to the kitchen to prepare tea. Unbeknownst to him, there was a gas leak, which is suspected to have caused the blast as soon as he ignited the stove. The impact of the explosion was severe, damaging the first-floor apartment, shattering windowpanes, and alerting neighbors, who immediately informed authorities.

Emergency response teams, including the police, fire department, and rescue personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene. The authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion and rule out any foul play.

CCTV Footage Captures Incident Despite Technical Glitch

While reviewing security footage from the apartment complex, investigators noted a technical issue causing the CCTV system to display an incorrect timestamp. However, footage of the explosion itself has been retrieved and is being analyzed as part of the investigation. The police are using this footage to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the explosion.
