Bengaluru Flood Alert: Heavy Rains Lead to Uprooted Trees, Waterlogged Streets And Traffic Advisories Issued
As heavy rains drench Bengaluru, causing widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls, authorities have taken significant measures to mitigate the impact on daily life. Recognising the severity of the situation, the Bengaluru District collector has declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadis in the city for Monday. This decision aims to ensure the safety of students and reduce traffic congestion, allowing emergency services to better manage the waterlogged streets.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police have been actively issuing advisories to inform residents about the current traffic conditions. They've highlighted areas including the CID Office, CBD, Palace Road, Gajendra Nagar, and several others where waterlogging has led to slow-moving traffic. Commuters are urged to avoid these areas if possible and to follow alternative routes suggested by the authorities. This proactive communication is essential in helping residents plan their commutes and avoid getting stranded in waterlogged areas.

If the government can’t maintain the Silk Board, one of the Char Dhams of #BengaluruTraffic, one rain is enough to flood it! Why dream of imposing new taxes in Bengaluru? #BengaluruRains @siddaramaiah @DKShivakumar

Further compounding the city's woes, the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and areas like the Panathur Railway Underpass and near KFC on Varthur Gunjur Road are experiencing severe waterlogging. Traffic in these areas is barely moving, causing delays and frustration among commuters. The police are recommending alternate routes to help alleviate the congestion and have stressed the importance of cooperation from the public during this challenging time.
The rain, expected to persist throughout the day, has led to additional problems such as a fallen tree at Water Tank Road, Adugodi, towards BDA Junction. Efforts to remove the obstruction are underway, with authorities advising residents to seek alternative routes. In moments of crisis, the emergency number 112 is available for immediate assistance.
Despite these challenges, Bengaluru's residents have taken to social media to share their experiences, posting videos and photos that highlight the extent of the flooding. One notable video showcases what appears to be a "river" flowing through the Silk Board area, illustrating the dramatic impact of the heavy rainfall.
The city's infrastructure struggles, exacerbated by the rain, have ignited public outrage. Issues such as potholes, which have been likened to "moon craters," and the overall neglect and corruption within the city's maintenance have come under scrutiny. These problems have tarnished Bengaluru's reputation, leading to a backlash from its citizens.
