Bengaluru Constable Allegedly Rapes Minor After Promising Help with Employment
A constable of the Bengaluru police has been arrested on allegations of raping a 17-year-old girl who had gone to the Bommanahalli police station to report an incident, according to news agency ANI. The accused, identified as Constable Arun, and another suspect named Vicky are now in custody and have been remanded to judicial detention.
As reported, the teenager, who lives within the Bommanahalli police jurisdiction, became acquainted with her neighbor, Vicky, a married man. Vicky reportedly deceived her under the guise of a marriage proposal, leading to the alleged assault and exploitation of the minor. Distressed by her circumstances, the girl confided in her mother, who then filed a complaint with the Bommanahalli police.

While seeking assistance at the police station, the survivor was approached by Constable Arun, who promised to help her and offer job assistance. However, in December, he allegedly deceived her into going to a hotel in Bengaluru, where he spiked her drink with drugs and raped her. He also purportedly threatened her, claiming to possess intimate videos of her and warning of severe repercussions if she revealed the incident.
Following the mother's complaint, the Bommanahalli police initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of both individuals. They have been charged under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Since the crime took place within their jurisdiction, the Bommanahalli police have taken charge of the case, ensuring prompt legal action. Both accused have been remanded to 14 days in judicial custody at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
In response to the incident, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayanand described it as regrettable and assured that strict action will be taken. "As soon as we were alerted to the situation, the constable was arrested and charged under the POCSO Act for allegedly assaulting a minor. The police department is fully committed to delivering justice for the survivor," he stated.
