Bengaluru Considers Another Tunnel Road In Yeshwantpur-Goraguntepalya Stretch To Ease Traffic Woes

As traffic congestion worsens in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government is intensifying efforts to alleviate the issue. Following the announcement of a Rs 2,500 crore tunnel road project near Hebbal in the Karnataka budget 2024, discussions are now underway for a similar project in Yeshwantpur, Goraguntepalya.

the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is preparing a feasibility report to build a tunnel road along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) between Yeshwantpur, Goraguntepalya tunnel road is under preparation, with considerations for a tunnel or flyover due to the nearby Metro line.

Originally, a double road to Sumanahalli was planned, but the rising traffic in Yeshwantpur and Goraguntepalya has prompted a reevaluation of options.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar highlighted these tunnel road projects during the Janaspandana programme, emphasizing the government's commitment to easing traffic congestion and reducing travel times. He stated, "We are exploring the construction of tunnel roads to enhance 'Brand Bengaluru' and elevate its status."

He also mentioned several projects outlined in the state budget for Bengaluru, including the proposed tunnel road from the Hebbal junction to Mehkri Circle.

Officials revealed that the agency responsible for studying traffic decongestion in Bengaluru is considering various mobility options for the 198-kilometre stretch. "The tunnel road is among the options being explored," they confirmed.
