Bengaluru–Chennai Shatabdi Express Train Gets Extra Coach From July 27 to Ease Rush
Passengers traveling between Bengaluru and Chennai via the Shatabdi Express will benefit from an upgrade starting July 27, 2025. An additional AC chair car coach will be added to the Shatabdi Express trains operating between Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) Bengaluru Station and Dr. MGR Chennai Central Station.

Extra Coach to Ease Congestion
The Shatabdi Express trains (12027/12028) currently operate with 17 coaches. With the addition of this 18th coach, the aim is to reduce overcrowding and enhance passenger comfort on one of the busiest intercity rail routes in South India.
The newly added air-conditioned chair car will provide more seating capacity for passengers commuting daily between the two metros. This move comes as part of Indian Railways' broader initiative to improve passenger services and meet rising demand.
Enhanced Travel Experience for Daily Commuters
The Bengaluru-Chennai Shatabdi Express is popular among business travellers, daily commuters, and tourists. With this change, the railway authorities expect to improve both availability and overall passenger experience, especially during peak hours and weekends.
The additional coach not only increases capacity but also offers a more comfortable and seamless journey, catering to the growing number of people traveling between the two cities for work, education, and leisure.
This upgrade is part of Indian Railways' ongoing efforts to modernize train services, provide better amenities, and reduce travel-related stress. Passengers are encouraged to book early to take advantage of the increased seating options.
With this enhancement, the Shatabdi Express continues to remain a preferred choice for fast, efficient, and comfortable travel between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
