Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway: Woman Killed After Car Crashes Into Divider Near Hoskote

A young woman lost her life after a high-end Mercedes-Benz rammed into a road divider on the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway near Hoskote, on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

The fatal accident occurred around 3 am near Dodda Hullur village under the Hoskote Police Station limits. Preliminary investigations suggest that the luxury car was travelling at a high speed when the driver allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to crash into the divider with immense force.

The impact left the Mercedes-Benz mangled beyond recognition. The woman travelling in the car sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot before emergency responders could reach the scene. Her identity has not yet been officially established.

Police suspect overspeeding and negligent driving may have played a role in the crash, though officials said all possible angles are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The latest tragedy adds to growing concerns over safety on the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, which has witnessed a string of fatal accidents since becoming operational. In March, four people were killed in a head-on collision near Kuppanahalli Gate under the Bangarpet Police limits. The crash involved an Innova car and a two-wheeler, according to preliminary findings.

Road safety on the expressway has come under increasing scrutiny, with more than 15 deaths reported in over 10 major accidents in the three months leading up to June 2025. In response to the rising number of fatalities, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) imposed restrictions on the movement of two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws and tractors on select stretches of the corridor.

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, South India's first greenfield expressway, was built to facilitate high-speed travel and has a maximum speed limit of 120 kmph. However, recurring accidents have raised concerns about speeding, lane discipline and overall road safety, underscoring the challenges of managing traffic on one of the country's fastest highways.
