Bengaluru Auto Fares to Rise: Revised Rates Expected by May 13
Auto drivers and owners' organisations in Bengaluru have been advocating for a fare hike for the past three years. Now, the district administration, which has taken the matter seriously, has agreed to their request and decided to increase the auto fare. However, sources reveal that the official order is yet to be issued.
With the prices of many essential items already on the rise, auto drivers have urged the District Collector to approve the fare hike immediately.

Current Auto Fare in Bengaluru
Currently, the minimum fare for an auto ride in Bengaluru is Rs 30, with an additional Rs 15 charged for every kilometer traveled. According to the revised fare list, the minimum fare is expected to increase from Rs 30 to Rs 35, a hike of Rs 5. The subsequent fare per kilometer will increase from Rs 15 to Rs 18, a hike of Rs 3.
District Collector Approves Auto Fare Hike
Several auto associations participated in a meeting on March 12 to discuss the fare hike. During the meeting, the Auto Fare Revision Committee listened to the views of the auto drivers and submitted the decision to the District Magistrate. Sources indicate that the District Magistrate has now approved the fare hike after reviewing the committee's report.
Passenger Rajashekar expressed support for the fare hike, stating, "The fares for all modes of transport, including BMTC and the metro, have increased. Auto meter fares should also be allowed to increase. Don't auto drivers also have to make a living?"
All auto driver organizations have already agreed to the proposed price hike during the meeting. The official order is expected to be issued on May 13.
