The incident occurred when the management sprayed the poison on Sunday night to drive away rats, causing students to develop breathing problems.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru (West), S Girish, stated, "Almost all the students have received treatment in the hospitals and are healthy; among them, three students named Jayan Varghese, Dileesh, and Jomon are seriously ill and are being admitted to the ICU."

A case has been registered under Section 286 BNS against the hostel management staff responsible for the incident, and an investigation is underway.

In a related incident in Maharashtra, 257 students exhibited symptoms of food poisoning after consuming biscuits from a nutritional meal program at a school.

Emergency medicine was initially provided, but the number of affected students rose to 90 by Monday morning, leading to their hospitalisation at the medical college in Deoria.
