Belgaum: Heavy Rains Create Flood-Like Conditions In Karnataka's Yallammanagudda, Affecting Daily Life

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc across India this August, with the latest blow hitting Karnataka's Belgaum district, especially around the Saundatti Yallamma Devi Temple in Yallammanagudda. A cloudburst-like situation emerged on Friday evening, causing flood-like conditions, sweeping away vehicles, and halting traffic as thousands of devotees were en route to the August 9 Yallammanagudda fair.

Ugargol-Yallammanagudda Road Submerged

A major stretch of the Ugargol-Yallammanagudda road was submerged due to intense downpours, stranding pilgrims from Gadag, Koppal, Bagalkot, and Vijayapura. With the Renowned Renuka Yallamma Temple in Saundatti inundated, the situation has raised safety concerns among locals and visitors alike.

Eyewitnesses reported vehicles being washed away and temple premises completely surrounded by water. Devotees trying to reach the temple for the annual fair were either stuck in traffic or forced to turn back.

Flood-Like Conditions Across Belgaum

Apart from Saundatti, Khanapur taluk and other areas in Belgaum district are battling relentless rains. Several rivers are in spate, and water levels continue to rise. In some locations, bridges have been submerged, cutting off access to multiple villages.

The administration has issued warnings urging residents to stay indoors and avoid venturing into flooded areas.
