BBMP elections: Female constable resigns, jumps into poll fray on BJP ticket
Bengaluru, Aug 10: As Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections are just round the corner, a female constable has resigned from her post and has jumped into poll fray on the BJP ticket.
35-year-old , Police constable-turned-politician, JM Savitha will contest from 156-Srinagar ward. She will file nomination today, media reports said. [All you need to know about BBMP elections: Explained]

Her father, C Mayanna, too contested from BJP in previous BBMP polls, but he lost by a margin of 88 votes. For over twenty years, he is actively associated with the BJP.

While talking to a daily, Savitha said that had she not been a constable, she would have entered politics earlier.
In her 12 year stint as a police constable, Savitha was posted in Basavanagudi Women's Police station from 2003-06 and then she was working in the Public Relations section in the office of the Director-General of Police from 2006-15.
A graduate in B.A. from Vasavi College, Savitha is married to M Chandrashekhar, a manager in a private firm, and has two children.

198 civic wards of the BBMP will got to polls on Saturday, Aug 22 and the results will be declared on Tuesday, Aug 25.

Last date for filing nominations: August 10
Last date for withdrawal: August 13
Polling: August 22
Re-polling, if necessary: August 24
Counting of votes: August 25
