Basavanagudi Kadalekai Parishe 2025: Five-Day Groundnut Fair Runs Until November 21

The historic Kadlekai Parishe, one of Bengaluru's oldest and most beloved traditional fairs, has officially begun in Basavanagudi, coinciding with the last Monday of the Kartika month. The festival opened with a special abhisheka at the Dodda Basavanna Temple, setting a spiritual tone for the celebrations. As always, groundnuts take centre stage-heaps of freshly harvested varieties fill the streets, offering a nostalgic charm unique to this centuries-old tradition.

Festival Extended to Five Days for the First Time

This year's Kadlekai Parishe has been extended to five days, breaking away from the long-standing two-day format. Historically, the event was restricted due to overwhelming footfall. The extension aims to ease crowd pressure and allow more time for visitors, farmers and traders to participate.

Lakhs of people are expected to attend from across Karnataka as well as neighbouring states such as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. For many families, the festival is an annual tradition-one that blends devotion, agriculture, culture and community bonding.

A Plastic-Free Festival for a Greener Bengaluru

A major highlight of the 2025 edition is its commitment to being a plastic-free festival. This eco-friendly initiative aligns with the city's sustainability goals and enhances the experience for attendees.

Vendors have already lined Basavanagudi's vibrant streets, now decorated beautifully with lights, banners and floral arrangements. Shoppers can be seen exploring piles of roasted and raw groundnuts as traders enthusiastically promote their produce.

Farmers, in particular, are hopeful that the extended schedule will boost their earnings this year.
