Bangalore Police foils assassination attempt on Owaisi

Plot to kill Akbaruddin Owaisi foiled
Bangalore, May 19: Bangalore Police has nabbed four people who have been allegedly hired to assassinate Akbaruddin Owaisi, leader of Islamist political party All India Majlis-e-Ittihad al-Muslimin (AIMIM).

Reports suggest that out of the four arrested, two were injured as they were trying to escape the police in Hindupur, Anantnag district.

The main accused has been identified has K Giri, while the identity of the remaining three could not be established. A joint team of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh police intercepted the four men and seized weapons from their possession.

This is not the first time that Owaisi has been targeted. In 2011, Owaisi had escaped an assassination attempt and ad sustained some bullet and stab injuries.

Owaisi, 42, was re-elected in the recent elections to the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly from Chandrayangutta constituency. He is the younger brother of MIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
