Bangalore most corrupt city in India: Anti graft site

Bengaluru, Nov 21: Bangalore, the IT hub city, tops the list of the most corrupt cities in the country, followed by Chennai, according to an anti graft site.

According to a report, the anti-corruption site, www.ipaidabribe.com that has listed the corrupt cities has been set up by Bangalore-based NGO Janaagraha.

The website states that Bangaloreans have paid Rs 16 crore as bribe since its launch in 2011. Second on the list are Chennaiites who have paid Rs 7 crore as bribe, Mumbai- Rs 6.97 crore, Delhi- Rs 4.4 crore, Hyderabad- Rs 2.9 crore, Kolkata- Rs 1.6 crore and Kochi- Rs 56, 101.

Since 2011, there have been more than three million visits on the site.

Joylita Saldanha, product manager of Janaagraha said that Bangalore tops the corruption index probably because of better awareness about the organization and the website.

"There is also a good response from Chennai for the website. Most people are using the website to vent their anger at the system," he said.

About the site

The website features various sections like- I paid a bribe, I did not pay a bribe, I met an honest officer, Bribe Hotline, all reports and report a bribe.

Since 2011, there have been more than three million visits on the site.

An initiative by Janaagraha, the site aims to uncover the "market price of corruption" and helps people to express their views about an overhaul in the system, give them a platform to share their experiences related to bribe and people even 'confess' to have bribed someone.
